A Tudor Revival Treasure
Built in 1916, the Dietz Refectory is a stunning example of Tudor Revival architecture. Its soaring timber trusses, stained-glass windows, and historic dining hall evoke an earlier era. The room still retains its original dining tables and features two magnificent fireplaces adorned with Mercer’s handcrafted tiles. These works of art depict biblical stories that Mercer first encountered on antique Pennsylvania German stove plates, bringing a distinct regional heritage into the Seminary’s daily life.
Adding to the room’s charm, the windows include stained-glass medallions and striking green glass panes—crafted from glass salvaged from Belgian greenhouses damaged during World War I. The setting is as atmospheric as it is historic, offering a rare opportunity to step back in time.
