C. Emlen Urban Awards
These awards are presented in honor of Lancaster’s preeminent architect – C. Emlen Urban (1863 – 1939).
___ Leadership — presented to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated the vision, wisdom and perseverance necessary to incorporate historic preservation into their long-range planning.
___ Sustainability – presented to the owner of any historically significant structure that has demonstrated over a significant period time a commitment to historic preservation through exemplary maintenance practices.
___ Preservation – presented to projects that comply fully with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (http://www.nps.gov/hps/tps/standguide/) A copy of approved U. S. Department of the Interior Part III application must be submitted .
___ Restoration/ Adaptive Re-use — presented to projects where the historical character of a structure is maintained through thoughtful and sensitive additions and/or restorations.
___ Community Revitalization — presented to projects that enhance a historic area and contribute to overall neighborhood improvement.
___ Master Craftsman — presented for the meritorious efforts to save a historic structure through master level building skills and knowledge.
___ Inspiration (lifetime achievement) Award – presented to individual(s) who has/have been long-time supporters of the Historic Preservation Trust and its mission.
___ Haubert/Heisey Award – presented to individual(s) who has/have supported in an exemplary manner the Historic Preservation Trust. This award is given in honor of long-time office manager Nancy J. Haubert and Elvin N. Heisey (1917-1992) whose dedication set an example for all volunteers.
___ Smedley Award – presented to a journalist or educator who has shown extraordinary support for historic preservation in Lancaster County. This award is presented in honor of former educator and Lancaster Intelligencer- Journal reporter Frederick H. “Chip” Smedley III (1956-2013).
